Tip #1: Avoid Glass Cleaners With Ammonia
Although glass cleaners are great for cleaning household appliances, most won’t work as well on auto glass as the majority of those cleaners contain ammonia. Ammonia may produce fumes that shouldn’t be inhaled. If your auto glass is not tinted, a little bit of ammonia is fine. However, if your auto glass is tinted, avoid using ammonia as they are not compatible. In most cases, water along with a microfibre towel works great as an auto glass cleaner. Microfibre towels provide a gentle exfoliating action without scratching your auto glass which is why it’s so commonly used.
Tip #2: Cleaning the Interior of Your Auto Glass
- Spray the cleaner directly onto a microfiber towel. Do not spray directly onto the auto glass.
- Start from the corners and wipe horizontally from top to bottom.
- Follow up immediately with a dry microfibre towel to dry it. Don’t leave the auto glass wet as it will stain.
- Apply the same technique to all other auto glass.
Tip #3: Cleaning the Exterior of Your Auto Glass
- Pull the windshield wipers away from the windshield.
- Spray cleaner directly onto the windshield
- Using a long razor blade, gently shave down the auto glass to remove anything that may be sticking on to it. Angle the razor at a 45 degrees and use small strokes to effectively remove any stickiness without causing any scratches or damages on your auto glass.
- Use a microfibre towel to wipe away any debris from the auto glass.
- Spray the auto glass with cleaner once again.
- Spray a blade clay bar with cleaner until it becomes flexible. Roll it up into a ball and flatten it into a circular shape. The blade clay bar will help remove and pick up anything the razor missed. Use minimal pressure and work the clay from top to bottom.
- Use the microfibre towel to wipe down the glass once more to remove any remaining debris and put the windshield wipers back in place.
